Pharaoh’s Agony

,
What more do you want from me?
You were my brother once,
Plucked from the reeds,
The Nile's jaws, you escaped.

Now you come crying, pleading
Let your people go; Never!
The greatest Empire in the world,
I will not disgrace my ancestors.

Rightful place, the mud and straw,
You will burden stones
Erecting my monuments
Glory be to the Gods.

Ra forbid me allow weakness
Waver I will not from my stance
Locusts, amphibians, fire, blood,
Darkness is not enough.

You snatched our sucklings
From mothers' beds, wailing
Weeping, get out of my sight!
What mercy can you speak?

Your lord and master has redeemed
Where is my deliverance from sorrow?
I will not rest, an endless pursuit
For your souls will suffer my anguish.

Pillar of cloud comes like a finger,
Sweeping the currents aside.
Chariots pursue the chosen seed!
Your savior offers no salvation.
