One of my favorite parts about working for the Automattic Special Projects team is the opportunity to create cool tools for WordPress users. Whether it’s a block missing in Gutenberg, a unique plugin that solves a real problem for WooCommerce users, or a classic theme feature modernized for the site editor, our expert team of WordPress designers and developers delivers.
We recently released a block that I’m very excited about: Scroll to Top block.
This block fulfills a common need for site owners that used to be fulfilled by WordPress theme developers. The Scroll to Top block works with any block theme. Simply add it to your footer template—or any template—to provide your end users with the option to click the icon to scroll to the top of any page or post.
There are just enough design settings to let you customize the block to fit your brand. You can change the background color, hover color, border color and thickness, and border radius. You can even set a custom icon if the default arrow doesn’t fit your site’s style.
When you are happy with the block styles, you can manipulate the location spacing for the floating icon. There’s even an option to make the block static so it only appears in the footer. I prefer the floating option.
The block works, and it works well. It’s nothing fancy, and it does exactly what you expect. It even has subtle details like not appearing until you start to scroll down the page.
If you are building block themes, install this block, especially if you are working on a site with long pages of content. You can see it in action here.

Will you use this block? What other blocks would you like to see in WordPress?
