Recent notes and what I’m working on

I’ll probably start crafting longer form content and a regular newsletter. Just getting that out of the way now, so make sure to subscribe to get updates!

Seriously, you won’t get spammed. Also, you really want to read my stuff.

Okay, let me get onto some other stuff. I’ve been drafting a content plan for YouTube. I’m working on a few different themes of content, mostly looking at conversational, aspirational, and informational. A full blog post is coming soon that should give a pretty good picture about what to expect on my new channel.

Speaking of YouTube, I was honored to join some actual WordPress YouTubers with Anne McCarthy’s Uniting WordPress YouTubers chats. These have been very insightful conversations to help bridge the gap between WordPress core developers and the leading influencers of WordPress users. Check out the videos and contribute to the conversations.

The second conversation sparked a really interesting follow up conversation from Matt Medeiros and Mark Szymanski on the philosophy of WordPress. This is well worth your time, so give this one a watch as well.

I haven’t posted much long form content in a while, but I’ve really enjoyed using Jetpack’s Social Notes. These are quick, title-less posts that you can auto-publish to, you guessed it, social channels. I’ve been publishing notes to LinkedIn, which is pretty much the only social channel I’ll interact with, but you can post to Facebook, Tumblr, Mastodon, Instagram (business), and a few others.

Here are some of my latest notes:

  • I had a great conversation recently with Andrew Sutton and Hari Gudatti, both of Iowa State University, about WordPress, open source, cloud infrastructure, WordPress.com hosting, WP Cloud, Pressable, Jetpack, and the value of owning your own domain.

I was excited to hear a young college student share a passion for open source. The more connections we can make with the next generation(s), the more we can continue the mission of open source and collaboration. WordPress is the leader in open source ideology, and it is one of the best communities for anyone to join at any level.

Let’s continue to champion WordPress, open source, collaboration, and community. Together, we can continue to thrive and change the world.

  • Woo is doing a ton to improve performance. I’m especially excited to see more use of the interactivity API. #woo #woocommerce #wordpress

  • WordPress 6.9 is coming in December! The accordion and stretchy blocks are great new additions to core. My favorite feature is inline comments. Although, command palette everywhere is very close. If you haven’t navigated WordPress admin with keyboard shortcuts, wait until you give it a try. It’s so nice to jump around your site with just a quick command.

Something I’m really excited about is that I’ve gotten back into my shop! It’s nice to be doing some woodworking projects again. I mentioned in a previous post that I’ll be adding some of the stuff I’ve built to my site, so be on the look out for some woodworking content. After all, this is my little corner of the internet; not everything I post has to be about WordPress.

The cool thing about my current site is I’m using WordPress.com (and Jetpack) Newsletters, which has a great categories feature. Once I start posting content in different topics, I’ll enable Newsletter categories so you can subscribe to updates in a specific category, multiple categories, or keep receiving everything. You get choices, read what you want if you will.

That’s it for now. You’ll get pretty good insight to what I’m up to in my Notes and on LinkedIn. See you in the next one.

✌️

P.S. Website facelift coming, and you better believe I’ll break it all down for you.
